Admissions - Wilmington Grammar School for Boys


Applications for places to start in Year 7 must be made through your Local Education Authority using the Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF).  Your son’s primary school will have copies of your LEA Admission to Secondary School booklet which provides information on the admission process for transfer from Year 6 to Year 7.  Applications can be made online through your LEA website or using the SCAF.

Admission to Year 7 at Wilmington Grammar School for Boys (WGSB) is co-ordinated by Kent County Council (KCC).  Information regarding admission to Kent schools can be found at

Entry to Wilmington Grammar School for Boys is via the Kent Procedure for Entrance to Secondary Schools Education age 11 Assessment Tests (PESE, 11+).

Parents must register for their son to take the PESE test with KCC.  Registration is usually open during the beginning of June each year.  Please check the KCC website to confirm the exact closing date.  Late registrations are not accepted unless you are moving into the area.

Only those students who are assessed as suitable for a grammar school education will be offered a place.  Places are offered in accordance with the schools Admissions Policy as published by the Governing Body.


Year 7 Entry in September 2018

The beginning of March is a busy time for the admissions team at WGSB.  We will do our best to respond to your call, but as expected, there will be high volume of calls coming through to the school and we thank you for your patience with this.  You can send in an email with your query to and we will respond as soon as we can. 


Waiting List for entry into Yr 7 September 2018

Kent County Council (KCC) will post Waiting List forms to all those Out of County that placed WGSB on their Common Application Form in October 2017 but was unsuccessful in gaining a place at the school in March 2018, following the National Offer Day.

To apply for the waiting list (your son would have been deemed selective for the 11+ test) complete the waiting list form and return it to KCC before the 16th March 2018. You may apply to go on the waiting list via your own Local Authority however, it wouldn't hurt sending KCC the form back as well!  The Waiting List will be returned to the school to maintain after the Reallocation day on April 26th.

PLEASE NOTE:  The School will not know where your son is on the Waiting List until 26th April 2018.

Appeals for entry to Year 7 in September 2018

Appeals for entry to Year 7 in September 2018 must be lodged by 29th March 2018 and will be heard by 15 June 2018.  Appeals should be lodge directly to the school:  Clerk to the Governing Body, Wilmington Grammar School for Boys, Common Lane, Wilmington, Kent DA2 7DA.

Appeals lodged after this date will be heard within 40 school days of 29th March or 30 school days of being lodged, whichever is the later date.

Deadline for late applications and waiting list requests to be included in the Kent County Council reallocation stage.  Also the date by which places should be accepted or declined to the school: Friday 16th March 2018 - Waiting list form to be posted to KCC

Unfortunately we are over subscribed in every Year group at our school and therefore cannot offer a place to anyone who applies directly to us.  You may complete an In Year Admission form and return it to the Admissions Secretary at WGSB.
