If you wish to apply to Wilmington Grammar School for Boys 2021 entry you will need to have registered and sat the Kent Test (Kent procedure for entrance to secondary schools age 11 assessment tests PESE).

Applications for places to start in Year 7 must be made through your Local Education Authority using the Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF).  Your son’s primary school will have copies of your LEA Admission to Secondary School booklet which provides information on the admission process for transfer from Year 6 to Year 7.  Applications can be made online through your LEA website or using the SCAF.

Admission to Year 7 at Wilmington Grammar School for Boys (WGSB) is co-ordinated by Kent County Council (KCC).  Information regarding admission to Kent schools can be found by clicking here

Parents must register for their son to take the PESE test with KCC.  Registration is usually open during the beginning of June each year.  Please check the KCC website to confirm the exact closing date.  Late registrations are not accepted unless you are moving into the area.

Only those students who are assessed as suitable for a grammar school education will be offered a place.  Places are offered in accordance with the schools Admissions Policy as published by the Governing Body.

Supplementary Form

You only need to complete a Supplementary Form if you:

(1) have a sibling currently attending WGSB or WGSG

(2) your son has been registered for free school meals in the last 6 years and you live within a 3 mile radius of the school.  If this applies to you, you will need to get a letter from your son's school confirming this.

Deadline for late applications and waiting list requests to be included in the Kent County Council reallocation stage.  

Also the date by which places should be accepted or declined to the school

Friday 26th March 2021

Deadline for lodging appeals

Wednesday 21st  April 2021

Kent County Council to reallocate places that have become available from the schools' waiting list. 

The school will maintain the waiting list from this date.


Appeals for Yr 7 in September 2021

If your child is due to start secondary school in September 2021 you can appeal between 1st March - 28 March 2021 to guarantee that your appeal will be heard by 14 June 2021.   For applications made in the normal admission round, appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals.  For late applications, appeals should be heard within 40 schools days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 schools days of the appeals being lodged.

Appeal forms and any documentation for it, should be sent directly to Wilmington Grammar School for Boys, not Kent County Council or emailed to Wilmington Grammar School for Boys to

Please note that you can only submit an appeal form during March 2021 if you named WGSB on your Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF) on/by 2nd November 2020.  If you did not name WGSB on your SCAF, then you will have to wait until 21st April 2021 and submit a late application form along with your appeal form, directly to the school.

In Year Admissions 

Unfortunately we are over subscribed in every Year group at our school and therefore cannot offer a place to anyone who applies directly to us.  You may complete an In Year Admission form and return it to the Admissions Secretary at WGSB.

Admissions to Year 12

Wilmington Grammar School for Boys offers a collaborative Sixth Form – WG6 - in partnership with Wilmington Grammar School for Boys.

WG6 admits boys and girls to follow AS/A Level courses if they achieve the required GCSE grades for the courses chosen.
