Week ending 20th July 2018
Dear Parents, Carers,
At the end of our penultimate week before we break up for the Summer, we have had a busy week! So much going on this week; from work experience of the Years 10 and 12, learning about businesses and gaining new skills, DEC construction site visit, House Competitions to Enrichment Week activities (this one deserves its own blog!). At the end of term there is always so much to cram in and next week we are looking forward to the whole school assembly where the students can reflect on the academic year gone by! One of the many highs of my role as a Headteacher, is seeing the students flourish, both academically and socially. Our House Points and Rewards system encourages students to do their best, and I am delighted to award my first Headteacher letter of recognition for receiving over 500 house points to Tristan in Yr 7.
Please remind your son to collect any items of lost property or confiscated coats before the end of term. All items remaining after the 24th July will be disposed of as we haven’t got the space in the office to store them all.
Year 12 DEC Construction Site Visit
Students visited a construction site in at Springhead Park in Northfleet to learn about different stages of residential construction as well as different construction methods. Students were led round into various houses being built to see the new timber frame construction methods. They learnt about building services and how these facilities are fed into properties. The students can take this knowledge away and apply it to their own building projects they are modelling on Revit at school.
House Cooking Competition
Two students from each form were selected to represent their house in the cooking competition. Students had no idea what they were making and turned up to follow a recipe which did not show them what they were making. The task was to produce Viennese star biscuits, this can be very tricky to make and tests their piping skills! Students loved getting involved although not so much with the clearing up. There was a great atmosphere in the room and students tried to interpret the instructions!
In Art club students have been working really hard on their stop motion puppets and have produced some fantastic work.
Three of our students are with their RAF group in Holland, raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity. They have a 100-mile hike and have completed 50 miles so far, although they have sore legs and aching feet, they are in good spirits. They have raised over £1000 so far for The Brain Tumour Charity. The link below gives more details of their fundraising.
Enduring the heat last week, students participated in a number of activities, representing their House and Form:
Balloon to the Stratosphere!
