Dear Parents, Carers

We have reached the penultimate week before Easter break and have managed to squeeze in some more reward trips, visits and sport fixtures!

Over the Easter break we are continuing with our maintenance works on the school and are having a new fire alarm system installed, something that is not possible to be tested during term time!

We have had parents’ evenings this term, more to continue over the coming months, and we send out thanks to the PTA for offering refreshments to parents waiting for their appointments.  Also, our thanks go to the PTA for hosting another Quiz Night tonight at 7.30pm in the school hall.

Reward Trips this week

A selection of students from all year groups attended a go-karting session this week, testing their driving skills and putting their competitiveness and team spirit to the test!  The boys had a great time as did the members of staff with them….not sure who was more competitive!

Cambridge University Students

WGSB Welcomed student representatives from Cambridge University to deliver a talk to students on applying for, and life at, Cambridge University.  Alice Wenban, who attended WGSG, spoke about her experience, passing on personal insight and sound advice to students considering Cambridge, or indeed any university course.  This inspiring session was a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear about University life first hand from ex-students.

Year 8 Football Team Progress to Final of the Cup

Mr Lynch is delighted to announce that the Year 8 football team have made to the final of the U13 District Cup Competition. They successfully beat Thamesview school in the semi-final on Thursday to secure their place in the final.  With over 30 players used in the A and B sides, this year’s selection has been difficult but a very welcome problem for Mr Lynch!   It’s been really pleasing to see the team play so well and keep their first ever clean sheet despite a few key injuries in the squad.  The game was a very tight affair with both teams going close in the early stages.  Wilmington took an early lead through Timi O and then Fred A scored a fantastic goal from 30 yards bending the ball into the top corner leaving a very good goalkeeper with absolutely no chance.  The rest of the game was very tight with Bobby B and Taran K protecting the impressive back four (Lucas R in particular).  The whole PE department and school wish the boys well going into the final after the Easter break.

Extra-Curricular Achievements

Yr 7 student Jaedon L has been selected to represent Jamaica in the 2018 Caribbean Swimming Championships to be held in Kingston Jamaica this Easter.

Jaedon started swimming at the age of 5 and joined Sevenoaks from Dartford Swimming Club in March 2017.   He is ranked in the top 3 for all the events he has qualified for at the Carifta’s and is in a strong position to bring home Gold medals in many events.

This is a fantastic achievement for Jaedon and we wish him the best of luck bringing that medal home!!

Have a lovely weekend.
