Week Ending 19th January 2018
Dear Parents/Carers,
Another week of inter-house competitions underway, with Newton House still holding on to the top position.
Our Year 9 Options Evening took place on Thursday; it was great to see some Year 10 and 11 students talking to parents and students about their subject choices and why they chose them. May I remind all Year 9 parents that parents’ evening is on Tuesday February 6th and the forms must be handed in by Thursday February 8th.
Kent Teacher of the Year Awards
The Kent Teacher of the Year Awards 2018 are now open for nominations - and these can be made by anyone passionate about their school including staff, parents, and pupils. Each year the event is run by the KM Charity Team to celebrate the best and brightest individuals and teams whose enthusiasm and drive help to make their schools a success. If you would like to make a nomination please follow this link http://www.kelsi.org.uk/news-and-events/news/primary/kent-teacher-of-the-year-awards-are-now-open
Design, Engineer, Construct (DEC) – Year 12
The DEC students have been developing their drawing skills and produced a 2 point perspective drawing as part of their holiday homework. The students really enjoyed this task and they are now using their sketchbooks to develop their skills as their own extension tasks. Here are some examples.
Modern Foreign Languages
Miss Deicher would like to congratulate Ethan G for excellent translation skills in German. He beat all the other students, working on his own to translate 20 sentences into accurate German. Well done Ethan!
Yr 7 Ukulele
This week saw the start of the Y7 Ukulele club. The music department purchased 15 colourful Ukuleles and Y7’s were invited to come along to this lunchtime club. The club is being run by a Year 11 student, Josh R, who is a very accomplished ukulele player. The club currently has 10 members so we are looking for another 4 or 5. Josh has a great rapport with the Y7’s and this adds to make this a very enjoyable activity.
Hopefully they will be able to perform in the forthcoming Winter Arts Festival on Thursday 8th Feb.
