Week Ending 26th January 2018

Posted on: 26/01/2018

Dear Parents,

On Thursday 8th February we are holding the Winter Arts Festival. This is a joint venture between the Art and Music departments.

The evening is a chance for the GCSE students to perform in public in readiness for their actual exams and with this in mind, the students from WGSG have also been invited to perform their exam pieces.

The evening is open to the whole school and not just GCSE classes and there will be many different acts performing such as Y8 street dance, Ukulele ensemble, Choir and individual singers (including by popular request, Y11 Matthew).

As well as music there will be a large display of Art and you are encouraged to walk around the displays as the music is playing to create a relaxed atmosphere. There will also be a short talk from the art department.

The evening starts at 6.30pm in the main hall and refreshments will be severed during the evening by the PTA.

Stone Lodge School Website

We are delighted to launch our new school websites, not just for the Grammar Schools, but also for our Trust, Endeavour MAT and our third partner, Stone Lodge School.

Thanks go to all the students who willingly posed for the photographer back in November and especially to the Stone Lodge models!  We hope you enjoy navigating your way around the new style sites and you will now be able to see Twitter feeds directly on the start-up pages of each site.

Thank you Cleverbox for creating a corporate look.

Year 12 DEC Visit – Dartford Council Planning Department

The Year 12 DEC students had a visit from Sonia from Dartford Council Planning Department to advise them on their chosen sites and building types. She shared some great advice with the students and is excited to come back towards the end of the year to see their proposals.

Year 7 & 8 food Technology

The boys have thoroughly enjoyed making their own pizzas from scratch over the last two weeks and have proudly taken them home in their very own takeaway pizza box. I wonder how many of them make it home in once piece before being devoured on the journey!

Year 11 Food Preparation and Nutrition

The GCSE students are busy practising dishes and developing their high level skills in preparation for their timed practical exam next term. The students have to make everything from scratch in order to access the top mark band. I cannot wait to see what they serve up as their final dishes!

Student Achievement

On Saturday, Victor A of 9B, represented the School as part of the Kent County Under 14 squad against Hampshire.  Victor was called in to the squad late last Friday afternoon, and made the 220-mile round trip to Hampshire on Saturday morning.

I am delighted to inform you that Victor scored on his debut for the Country side helping us win 5-2, and qualify for the Semi Finals of the South East Schools Football competition where Kent are likely to play either Hertfordshire or Bedfordshire.

Victor is now very likely to represent the County on Saturday 3rd February again, against Hampshire in the Semi-Final of the U14 National Inter Counties Competition and on the 10th February against Sussex.

Student Council

On Wednesday afternoon, the Student Council presented their ideas of ‘Pens Down Day’ to staff at their CPD session.   We look forward to sharing more on this topic in our blogs next month!
